For the second time I
was on a four week training course (09.11.-05.12.2009.) in partnering
institution – Research Centre for Environmental Chemistry and
Ecotoxicology RECETOX, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, as a
part of mobility and training program for young researchers and
postgraduate students within the project REP-LECOTOX (Contract No.
INCO-CT-2006-043559-REP-LECOTOX).
Four-week training was done within SOILETOX research group under
supervision of dr Jakub Hofman. Focus was set on methods for culturing,
extraction from soil and sediment samples and conducting tests on
nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. This test species has been recently
introduced into standard operating procedure of this laboratory. During
my training various samples of soils and sediments from all over the
Czech Republic were tested using species and together with PhD and
master students from SOILETOX I participated in conducting tests. In
addition to these, sediment samples brought from Serbia, which are the
object of research within the project Neighbouring Programme
Romania-Serbia: Eco-status of the River Tamiš, where members of LECOTOX
are participating, have also been tested on this test species.
Also, I have been engaged in work of other PhD students in SOILETOX,
assisting in setting up toxicity tests with Lactuca sativa, Folsomia
candida i Enchytraeus albidus.
I would like to thank Dr Jakub Hofman for his hospitality and given
opportunity to get training in RECETOX and to thank Prof. Radmila
Kovacevic for enabling me to be a part of REP-LECPTOX project.
